Going for Freedom – True Accounts of Flight in Verse


marcia-ugrrThe Underground Railroad – While the origin of its name is the stuff of legend, it was nevertheless a reality as a network of freedom enslaved Africans took advantage of whenever possible. Its very secrecy made it effective. Come hear tales of imaginative escape and evasion of capture told in verse. Also hear Ms Cole discuss her costume to learn about the history of slave clothing.

In costume and using monologue and original poetry, Marcia E. Cole will recount dramatic and imaginative escapes on the Underground Railroad. Tales highlight the daring exhibited and the importance of collaboration with black and white sympathizers. This will be followed by a discussion of the outfit worn for even clothes have history.
